Andorra's General Syndic, Carles Ensenyat, has unveiled a week-long programme of events for the 33rd anniversary of the Constitution on 14 March, incorporating new educational sessions alongside traditional festivities to highlight the document's origins and significance.
The events, running from 10 to 15 March, respond to feedback from last year's review with parliamentary group leaders, which identified a need for greater focus on the constitutional process beyond celebrations. Ensenyat stressed the aim of fostering knowledge about the Carta Magna and its development. "The will is to provide knowledge and recall the meaning of the Constitution, beyond the party," he said.
The programme opens in the General Council's vestibule with two sessions organised with the Gesco group of former syndics and councillors. On Tuesday 10 March at 7pm, Enric Fossas Espadaler, professor of constitutional law at the University of Barcelona, will deliver a talk on "Perspectives of Constitutional Law in the 21st Century", aimed primarily at academic and judicial audiences but open to all. This is followed on Thursday 12 March by a roundtable, "The First Steps of the Constitutional Process (1989-1992)", featuring former syndics Ton Cerqueda, Josep Dallerès, Albert Gelabert, Jordi Mas and Vicenç Mateu. Moderated by Andorra Recerca + Innovació researcher Yvan Lara, the discussion will cover preparatory negotiations and transfers of powers to parishes—a period Ensenyat described as "understudied but with very important steps".
Open doors at the Casa de la Vall and General Council extend from Friday 13 March to Sunday 15 March. On Friday, access runs from 4pm to 8pm, with children's workshops for ages 3-12 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm in the Council's vestibule, followed by tricolour flag lighting on the buildings from 7pm to 10pm.
Saturday's main institutional events shift to the morning: the traditional General Council session at 11am, a group photo on the Casa de la Vall steps, and Ensenyat's address at 11.30am in the Council's vestibule before authorities and diplomats. Afternoon open doors from 4pm to 8pm feature a human tower performance by Castellers d'Andorra la Vella and Colla Jove de Castellers de Sitges in the Council square, with flag lighting from 7pm to 10pm. Children's workshops may also occur Saturday afternoon.
Sunday offers open doors from 10am to 2pm, a Grossband concert at 11am, and sardanes dancing from noon with Cobla Moreneta.
The official poster, the fourth in a series by Escaldes-Engordany illustrator Xavier Casals since the 30th anniversary, presents an idealised aerial view of Andorra's silhouette in spring greens against stylised grey Pyrenean mountains. Created by hand with ink, watercolour and graphite—including the General Council crest—Casals aimed for a sense of calm and clarity, emphasising the institutional message: "1993-2026 / 33rd anniversary of the Andorran Constitution / 14 March". He noted the green tones reflect both personal preference and the mountain landscape.
