Canillo Councillor Addresses POUP Protest with Meetings and Clarifications
Senior councillor Jordi Alcobé contextualises a 66-signature protest against the urban development plan, noting invalid signatures and low.
Key Points
- 66-signature protest letter received; 17 from non-property owners, many family-linked.
- Only 6 of 66 attended prior info session; ~10 have met officials for clarifications.
- POUP promotes sustainable growth, density limits; open to alternatives for modification 5.
- Cable car project in early phase; details on path and height due in two weeks.
Canillo's senior councillor, Jordi Alcobé, has emphasised the parish council's commitment to addressing residents' opposition to the urban development plan (POUP) through direct meetings, while contextualising a protest letter with 66 signatures received about two weeks ago.
Alcobé noted that 17 signatures came from individuals without registered property in the parish cadastre, and several others were from family members linked to a single plot. He highlighted that only six signatories attended a previous council information session on the plan, indicating broad unfamiliarity with its details. Around ten have now met with officials, where the council has clarified aspects and fielded questions.
The POUP serves as a flexible tool to prevent uncontrolled growth during intense construction pressure, prioritising sustainability, landscape integration, and limits on urban density. Alcobé affirmed openness to equally effective alternatives, particularly for modification 5—the largest after modification 4—if they address concerns raised in ongoing discussions.
Regarding worries about a proposed cable car project and its overflight path, he stated it remains in the definition phase. Details on the affected area and flight height are expected within two weeks, allowing assessment of any urban planning impacts.
Alcobé praised the constructive approach of participating residents and reiterated the council's willingness to refine the plan based on their input.
