Former general syndic Roser Suñé said she is deeply worried about the rise of the far right, particularly at the international level, rating her concern an 8 out of 10. In an interview with Ràdio Nacional, she added that the level of alarm is lower within the country.

Suñé criticised the harsh political rhetoric coming from far-right movements abroad and questioned how society has been able to slide backwards. She described antifeminist discourse as “very worrying,” and highlighted issues around race and the targeting of immigrants. “I thought we would not see this again, but it is true that it is cyclical,” she said.

She also expressed concern about young people who say they would prefer to live under a dictatorship rather than a democracy, attributing that view to the fact they have only ever experienced democracy.

Suñé stressed the importance of education in fostering critical thinking. “Democracy is worked on every day and demands shared responsibility, whereas a dictatorship tells you what you must do,” she said.
