- Scrutiny on CDA's 18-year rule; demand for full documentation.
- Council yet to respond amid calls for transparency.
The opposition group Unitat d’Aran (UA) has formally requested a detailed audit of all transactions made with Naut Aran town council's credit cards and representation expenses since the start of the current term.
The move, registered at the council, aims to examine every expenditure and obtain all supporting documentation to address concerns over the use of public funds. UA's push for transparency follows the emergence of a controversial €5,200 expense at a single bar, reportedly charged to the council's credit card by Mayor César Ruiz-Canela.
The incident has intensified scrutiny on the management of Convergència Democràtica Aranesa (CDA), which has held the mayoralty uninterrupted since 2007. After nearly two decades in power, opposition figures argue it is essential to account for every cent of public money.
UA spokesperson Marc Tarrau demanded "transparency and clarity," stating that the municipality's image is being tarnished by situations causing public concern. He emphasised that the current administration's long tenure offers no excuse for lax oversight, insisting there must be "no shadows" when handling taxpayers' money. Tarrau added that the institution's prestige hinges on swiftly providing all relevant records.
The council, currently under significant political pressure, has not yet responded to the request.
