Key Points

  • On‑site technical meeting set for early January to evaluate and select the final location.
  • La Cortinada is the comú's preferred site, but decision awaits technicians' conclusions.
  • Public tender preparation is planned; officials say private investment will be needed.
  • Some 50 appeals to the POUP and related reports could delay the project's schedule.

The Ordino geriatric care centre project is entering a decisive phase at the start of next year, deputy mayor Eduard Betriu said. The parish council (comú) and the Ministry of Social Affairs will hold an on‑site technical meeting in early January to evaluate and choose the final location; the definitive decision will follow that inspection. The comú has put forward La Cortinada as its preferred site, but Betriu stressed the choice depends on the technicians’ findings.

The stated aim is to prepare and publish the public tender as soon as possible to move the project forward. Both the comú and the ministerial team have indicated that private participation in financing will be necessary; officials have warned that without private cooperation it will be very difficult for the sociosanitary centre to proceed.

The location debate has taken place against broader discussions about the model and governance of the facility. A minority councillor called for transparency and a public procurement process to determine which private entities might develop the centre, while noting that the service is needed somewhere in the Valls del Nord, whether at Prat de la Farga, Sornàs or La Cortinada.

Other sites remain under consideration: the comú’s mayor, Maria del Mar Coma, has highlighted the Camp de Seró plot — some 19,000 m² — as a viable option. Betriu also suggested the public land could make the tender attractive to private promoters because it would be available at no cost to the successful bidder.

Timing could be affected by separate proceedings over the Parish Urban Planning Plan (POUP). Betriu defended the legitimacy of around fifty appeals filed by property owners, described the council’s approach as calm, and said the comú is awaiting the government’s report on the appeals. The parish expects to participate in the technical commission to help draft responses and will respect any judicial decisions, which could influence the project schedule.
