The Social Democratic Parliamentary Group (GPS) has submitted a series of written questions to the Government requesting details on strategies to guarantee energy security, cut consumption of essential natural resources and prepare Andorra for global decarbonisation.

General councillor and deputy president of the GPS, Pere Baró, asks the executive to explain the criteria that guide urban and territorial planning with regard to reducing use of key material resources such as energy, water and soil. He also requests clarification on how territorial policies account for the limited physical and ecological capacity of Andorra’s territory.

Baró warns that, “in a context of climate emergency and pressure on natural resources, Andorra cannot afford to continue designing its territorial model without integrating real and verifiable environmental limits,” and calls for stricter planning criteria to ensure sustainable development.

The parliamentary group expresses concern about the country’s absolute energy dependence on external, hydrocarbon-based sources. It asks what forecasts, contingency plans or timelines exist to manage an anticipated reduction in current supplies and to secure both energy availability and affordability in a global context of uncertainty and decarbonisation requirements.

“Without a clear and scheduled strategy to reduce our energy dependence, Andorra is exposed to a future of vulnerability, rising costs and lack of autonomy,” Baró said.

The GPS says it is essential that the Government provide transparent, objective and verifiable information on planned actions in these areas. The group adds it will continue to exercise a responsible, demanding and constructive opposition, particularly on strategic matters that affect the country’s energy, territorial and economic future.
