Key Points

  • Social Democrats register reserve amendment under article 100 for housing regulation law within six months.
  • Targets ongoing sustainable growth bill; signed by deputy president Pere Baró Rocamonde.
  • Follows prior rejection; heads to Sindicatura review and debate on January 22.
  • Addresses housing affordability crisis for Andorran families amid escalating prices.

The Social Democrat parliamentary group has registered a reserve amendment to push the Andorran government to draft specific legislation regulating housing access within six months.

The move targets the ongoing bill on the continuity and consolidation of sustainable growth measures. It calls for the executive to present a dedicated law establishing a regulatory framework for affordable rental and purchase prices. Social Democrats argue this would ensure access to decent housing, a top concern for many residents amid rising costs and access barriers.

Pere Baró Rocamonde, the group's deputy president and general councillor, signed the amendment under article 100 of the General Council's rules. It has been formally submitted to the Sindicatura for review, proposing an additional final provision to the bill that mandates the government's action by the deadline.

This follows an earlier rejection of a similar addition during the bill's legislative process, which lacked sufficient support. By using a reserve amendment, the group keeps the issue alive for parliamentary debate at the next General Council session on Thursday, 22 January. That meeting will also cover the 2026 budget bill and the sustainable growth measures project.

Social Democrats have repeatedly highlighted the urgency of addressing housing affordability, a key social challenge in Andorra, to support families facing escalating prices.
