Susagna Venable has resigned from her post as commercial advisor to the Andorra la Vella commune after a year and a half in the role, citing personal reasons. She presented her resignation a few days ago and the commune has accepted it, she confirmed.

Venable was hired in May 2024 as delegate for commercial and business development and advisory, employed as special-relationship staff. Her remit, according to the job description published in the BOPA, included promoting the area, maintaining direct contact with merchants’ associations, implementing a training and support plan for commerce, verifying the census and contact details of parish businesses, and developing projects to encourage new shops.

She declined to give further details about the reasons for her departure. The commune thanked her for her work over the past year and a half, highlighting her role in advancing strategic projects, her continuous communication with the commercial and business community, and her commitment to commercial dynamization.

Officials said the projects Venable led will continue, as they form part of the commune’s strategy and will be developed according to the established plan. One of the most prominent initiatives she led, still pending launch, is a job bank for retail professionals to be published on the commune’s commerce website. The site is also expected to include an activity calendar, a business census, an updated list of vacant premises and information on merchants’ associations.

The commerce department is currently facing added strain due to the long-term sick leave of the head of Project Development for Commerce. The commune said it is working to reinforce the department to ensure the area continues to function while that absence lasts.

In her past roles, Venable has chaired the Carlemany Avenue and Side Streets Merchants’ Association and the Federation of Merchants’ Associations of Andorra. She has also been involved in politics, appearing fourth on the Agrupament Encampadà list in the 2019 communal elections and second on the parish list for the 2023 national elections on a joint PS–Agrupament Encampadà ticket. In the private sector, she previously launched a chain of shoe stores in the central axis that ultimately did not succeed.
