The 15th edition of the Cursa Popular Illa Carlemany drew 3,800 participants on Sunday, maintaining steady turnout consistent with past years and affirming its status as one of Andorra's largest mass-participation sporting events. Last year's edition attracted 4,000 runners.
Organised by the Government through the ministries of Culture, Youth and Sports and Health, the event promoted physical activity, healthy habits and social gathering. Runners of all ages competed in urban routes of 2km or 5km between Escaldes-Engordany and Andorra la Vella. Both started from Carrer Consell de la Terra behind the Illa Carlemany shopping centre, with the 5km race beginning at 10:30am and the 2km at 10:40am. Finish lines were at Parc Central in Andorra la Vella. The longer distance doubled as the men's Andorran 5km championship.
Nahuel Carabaña won the men's category, ahead of Gerard Rogé and Marcos Sanza. Rita Vizmanos took the women's title, followed by Paula Lima and Silvia Felipo. Organisers also awarded prizes to top non-federated adult runners in the 2km race and to child participants in that distance.
Several government members took part, led by Head of Government Xavier Espot and Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Mònica Bonell. Espot described the citizen response as "very positive" and noted the steady rise in entries as evidence of Andorran society's commitment to sports and solidarity.
Sustainability efforts continued, with hydration stations limited to the finish area to cut plastic bottle waste. Trophies used recycled materials, and participant gifts avoided industrial chemicals.
