The sixth edition of the Open Andbank swimming competition took place on Saturday, May 2, at the Olympic pool in Andorra la Vella's Els Serradells sports centre, attracting around 1,000 spectators and more than 450 swimmers from 11 clubs, including five Andorran teams and six others primarily from Catalonia.
The event featured elite competitors such as Olympic swimmers África Zamorano, Ainhoa Campabadal and Carla Carrón, alongside Spain's national champions and Andorran senior team member Nil Cadevall. Organised by the Andorrana de Natació Federació (FAN), the meet covered events across various age groups and nearly all disciplines, marking the highest entry numbers in its history with pre-event tallies of 454 swimmers, 16 clubs, 44 events and 1,682 entries.
Competition highlights included 15 new championship records across multiple events, plus an Andorran record in the 13-and-under 200m butterfly set by Marc Garcia of Club Natació Serradells in 2:36.56.
FAN president Joan Clotet called the day a clear success in both sporting and organisational terms. "Managing more than 450 swimmers was a challenge and we achieved it," he said, noting the strong turnout of athletes and fans while pointing to potential for hosting higher-level international meets ahead.
Technical director Alfonso Maltrana praised the high-calibre participants, volunteer contributions and overall impact. "We brought in big names and experienced a unique day," he said.
Andbank country banking director Maria Suárez had previously highlighted the event's consistent growth and FAN's ambitions to establish it as a key stop for international swimmers.
