Andorra's top female tennis player Vicky Jiménez suffered a straight-sets defeat in her Wimbledon debut

Vicky Jiménez, Andorra's leading female tennis player ranked 111th in the world, was eliminated from Wimbledon in the first round after a 6-2, 6-3 defeat to Spain's Sara Sorribes on Tuesday.

The Andorran entered the main draw of the third Grand Slam of the season directly via her WTA ranking. However, she trailed throughout the match against the Castelló de la Plana native, currently 252nd or 253rd, who peaked at world number 32 in 2022 after pausing her career due to mental health issues.

Sorribes broke Jiménez's serve twice in the first set—starting in the fourth game—to secure a 6-2 lead. Although Jiménez held her initial service game, the losses proved insurmountable. The second set followed a similar course: Sorribes broke early for 2-0, Jiménez responded to level at 3-3 with a break of her own, but the Spaniard regained control and closed out a 6-3 win, showing greater composure in key moments.

Jiménez struggled with serve consistency, losing it twice per set while breaking Sorribes only once. This marked her first direct entry into a Grand Slam main draw, but she could not claim a debut victory.

Sorribes advances to face Jessica Pegula, the current world number four and former number three in 2023, who defeated Czech qualifier Darja Vidmanová 7-5, 6-3. Jiménez learned her draw on 27 June, with Pegula as a potential second-round opponent.
