  • Prepares for Alpine World Cup opener on Oct 24 in Sölden, Austria.

Andorran alpine skier Joan Verdú is set to travel to New Zealand for a key pre-season training camp from 11 August to 15 September, building snow time ahead of the Alpine World Cup season opener on 24 October in Sölden, Austria.

Verdú, representing the Andorran Ski Federation and VANDEER-Red Bull Sports team, will train alongside Norway's World Cup squad, supported by his technical staff led by new head coach and speed expert Natko Zrnčić-Dim. The month-long block replaces prior Argentina plans with proven New Zealand venues, allowing progressive skill-building in giant slalom and super-G.

The camp begins at Roundhill until 30 August, starting with free skiing for base work before shifting to event-specific sessions on groomed, injected pistes that replicate race conditions.

The team then heads to Ohau through 10 or 11 September, using a prepared course to hone technical and competitive elements under simulated race setups.

It wraps up at Coronet Peak with shorter, more technical runs to fine-tune readiness before the group returns to Europe.

Afterwards, Verdú will maintain momentum with physical conditioning and on-snow sessions in Andorra and the Alps, aiming for optimal form at Sölden.
