This iconic Pyrenees ciclotourist event offers routes for all levels from La Massana to Andorra la Vella. Pros join 85.5% foreign field amid weekend festivities, driving tourism with high satisfaction and repeat visits.

Key Points

  • Over 700 riders from 17 countries join 49th edition with five routes up to 133km and 3,800m elevation.
  • Event starts Friday with bike tests, social rides, and Tour de France viewing; capped at 1,000 entrants.
  • Pros like Esteban Chaves and Marianne Vos compete; 80% international field boosts local tourism.
  • Uphill-only timing enhances safety; routes climb iconic ports like Cabús and Ordino.

More than 700 cyclists from 17 countries will take part in the 49th Jorma Volta als Ports d'Andorra this Sunday, with nationals making up 14.5% of the field and the rest from abroad.

The event, one of the Pyrenees' most established ciclotourist marches, retains its popular format of five routes suited to all levels, from a single climb to the full challenge of five iconic ports: Port de Cabús, Coma d'Arcalís, Coll d'Ordino, Collada de Beixalís, and Alt de la Comella. The routes range from 52km with 1,080m of elevation gain to 133km and 3,800m. Starts begin at 8am from Plaça de les Fontetes in La Massana, with all routes finishing at Parc Central in Andorra la Vella. Entries are capped at 1,000, up from around 500 last year.

Organizers time only uphill sections—a safety measure in place for three years—allowing riders to pause at summits for photos and safer descents. No full road closures are planned, just brief traffic stops as groups pass.

The weekend kicks off Friday with the Jorma Bike Experience, offering tests of new Specialized bikes and guided tours of BiciLab, which will be free for entrants. Saturday features the Social Ride Assos Collective 13, an open ride to Sorteny with professional residents, followed by the official Village at Plaça de les Fontetes for bib collection, 15 exhibitors, live music, sponsor promotions, and visitor raffles. Andorra la Vella first syndic Sergi González noted free BiciLab access and pre-race activities including gear demos, an exhibition, raffles, and a giant screen for Tour de France viewing.

The Thursday presentation in La Massana drew Tourism and Commerce Minister Jordi Torres, Massana first syndic Eva Sansa, González, and race director Gerard Riart. Notable entrants include Esteban Chaves, a former pro and local resident, and Visma's Marianne Vos, with more pros likely. Riart emphasized local roots despite 80% international riders: "The Volta als Ports is a home race." He highlighted nearing the 50th edition as a milestone, with 2027 plans to honor origins via the Agrupació Ciclista Andorrana.

Sansa called it a proud Massana tradition, building on recent events like the BTT World Cup and Andorra Epic. Torres cited last year's impact: 65% foreign riders averaging 2.4 nights, over 90% in local lodging, 56% repeats, and 9/10 satisfaction.
