Andorra will face widespread road closures and public transport disruptions on Tuesday, August 25, during the fourth stage of the 2026 Vuelta a España, which starts and finishes entirely within the Principat.
Mobilitat, the country's transport authority, has urged residents to avoid non-essential car journeys between 1pm and 6pm, prioritise remote working where possible, and check real-time traffic updates. The 105km route begins at 2.40pm from Avinguda Tarragona in Andorra la Vella, passing through Encamp at around 2.51pm and Canillo at 3.05pm. Riders will climb to Port d'Envalira by 3.39pm, drop to Pas de la Casa shortly after, then loop back via Canillo, Encamp, Coll de Beixalís, La Massana's Aldosa, Ordino, Coll d'Ordino, a third passage through Canillo and Encamp, and Alt Port de la Comella before reaching the finish line in Andorra la Vella around 5.30pm.
Avinguda Tarragona will close fully between the Comella roundabout and the kilometre 0 roundabout for about 24 hours, from 10pm on Monday, August 24, until 10pm Tuesday, to allow setup and dismantling of start and finish infrastructure. Affected residents can access private parking until 1pm on race day, with partial reopening from 9pm Tuesday (two northbound lanes) and 10pm (two southbound lanes). North-south traffic in the central valley will divert via Carrer Prat de la Creu or Avinguda Meritxell.
The CG-2 stretch between Encamp and Canillo will shut for roughly three hours due to the peloton's triple passage, reopening only after the final green-flag police vehicle passes. Roads will generally close about one hour before cyclists arrive and reopen afterward. The advertising caravan starts at noon on a separate route through Encamp, Canillo, Pas de la Casa, Ordino, La Massana, Andorra la Vella, Santa Coloma, and Sant Julià de Lòria to the Riu Runer border.
Public transport changes begin Monday night. The National Station closes from 10pm August 24 through Tuesday, though it stays open for international buses until 1pm Tuesday, shifting afterward to Carrer Prat del Rull until 7pm. Open-air car parks at Parc Central, Centre Ciutat, and Prada Guillemó are unavailable August 24-25.
Line L1 runs normally. L2 uses the alternative La Grau stop on Prat de la Creu. L3 and L4 skip from National Station to Fener, starting at Maria Pla’s Fener stop; L4’s first Vall d’Orient service from Pas de la Casa is at 6pm. L5 diverts via Prat de la Creu to La Grau. L6 and L7 start at Caldea, stop at Nacions Unides, and go via Fiter and Rossell, but skip 3pm and 5.30pm services Tuesday. Night line BN1 uses Prat de la Creu and La Grau overnight Monday.
Authorities advise planning ahead and favouring public transport to minimise disruption.
