FC Andorra Lose 1-0 at Burgos to Miss Record LaLiga Hypermotion Points Tally

FC Andorra fell to a 1-0 defeat at Burgos CF on Sunday, closing their LaLiga Hypermotion campaign without matching the club's best-ever points tally in the second tier.

The match at El Plantío stadium, attended by 11,381 spectators, saw the Tricolors finish 13th with 58 points from 16 wins, 10 draws and 16 losses. A draw would have equalled the 59-point record from their 2022-23 debut season under Eder Sarabia, while a win would have set a new benchmark. Instead, Iván Morante's 39th-minute header from a low corner delivered by David González proved decisive.

Despite 11 absences—including injuries to Édgar, Jastin, Théo Le Normand, Molina, Imanol, Nico Ratti and Marc Cardona (doubtful), suspensions for Petxa and Gael Alonso, and Yaako's international call-up with Hungary—the Andorrans fielded a recognisable side. Coach Carles Manso named just 16 players, including youth prospects Jan Lagunas and Víctor Chumachenko from Nàstic de Manresa. Chumachenko debuted in added time.

Andorra dominated possession at 66% and created the best first-half chances. Lautaro de León struck the post in the 13th minute after an Olabarrieta cross, while Álex Calvo's mazy run forced a save from Ander Cantero, with Atienza clearing the rebound. Dani Villahermosa's long-range effort also hit the woodwork. Jesús Owono denied Íñigo Córdoba and kept out further threats, but Morante capitalised on defensive marking at the set piece.

In the second half, Burgos pushed after learning of results elsewhere, with Owono producing a superb stop to deny Curro Sánchez's header. Andorra substitutions—Yeray for the injured Olabarrieta, then Minsu and Manu Nieto—failed to spark an equaliser. Cerdà headed wide late on from a Carrique cross, and Nieto missed with a bold shot.

Burgos, level on points with sixth-placed Castellón entering the day, needed a win and favourable results for the promotion play-offs but missed out on goal difference. Their coach Luis Miguel Ramis had praised Andorra's intensity pre-match, warning of a tough contest.

Manso reflected positively post-match, congratulating his squad and fans on a solid season that secured another year in the professional ranks. "We have laid foundations for next year to keep improving as a club and engaging more supporters," he said, urging fans to fill the stadium. He expressed hope for his own future at the club, owned by Gerard Piqué and Jaume Nogués.

Meanwhile, FC Andorra Genuine completed the third phase of LaLiga Genuine Moeve in Burgos, losing 2-1 to Real Zaragoza and drawing 1-1 with Ponferradina amid shared activities and medal ceremonies. The final phase is set for 19-21 June at the Spanish Football Federation's facilities in Las Rozas.
