Andorra's golf team finished seventh at the European Team Shield Championship after a 2-1 victory over Cyprus in the seventh-place playoff at the Royal Malta Golf Club.
The Federació de Golf d’Andorra squad, led by coach José Manuel Lara and featuring Eduard Tor, Èric Galimany, Thomas Blazy and Hugo Fernández, split the individual matches—Fernández won his while Blazy lost by one stroke. Tor and Galimany then secured the winning point in the foursomes match.
Lara highlighted the progress, noting the team was content with the win against Cyprus, who had placed second in the opening day's medal play. He added that improvement was the key achievement.
The result capped Andorra's campaign among the 14 competing teams. They had qualified for the knockout stages by taking eighth in medal play with a total of nine-over par.
In the quarter-finals, top-seeded Bulgaria prevailed 2-1, with Tor falling to Denis Staykov, Galimany losing to Samuel Brown, and Blazy and Fernández claiming the only point by beating Philipp Kittof and Hristo Yanakiev 2-1 in the pairs.
A subsequent fifth-place playoff saw Luxembourg win 3-0, as Andorra dropped all three matches, including singles and foursomes. Malta took the overall title.
