FC Santa Coloma Thumps Penybont 3-0 to Advance in Conference League

FC Santa Coloma defeated Penybont 3-0 at Estadi Nacional, securing a 4-0 aggregate win to advance to the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round, where they will face Rapid Wien.

The Andorran side took control early against the Welsh team, who needed goals to overturn the 1-0 first-leg deficit from Cardiff City Stadium. In the second minute, Barrenechea fired a powerful shot from distance that a defender blocked. Danger came from the right flank, with Pedja Muñoz testing keeper Higgs in the 11th minute after a diagonal pass from Guillaume López. Álex Gómez shot over from the edge of the box three minutes later.

Muñoz opened the scoring in the 20th minute, latching onto a pass into space from Barrenechea before drilling a low shot into the far corner. Penybont raised their intensity but saw Ethan Cann head against the crossbar; he received a yellow card for protesting. Tensions escalated in the 31st minute with a yellow for Rasines, followed by Cann's second booking and red card a minute later for a blow to an opponent's head, which triggered a melee and left the visitors with 10 players.

FC Santa Coloma managed possession at the break before sealing the result. In the 59th minute, Higgs parried Pedja's run and shot from the right, allowing Gómez to tap in the rebound. Víctor Vázquez made a triple change at the 62nd minute, introducing Mihaylov, San Nicolás and Rodríguez for Pedja, Rasines and Barrenechea. Arjona forced a superb save from Higgs in the 66th.

Mihaylov added a third in the 82nd minute, prodding home during a scramble in the six-yard box. Late chances followed: Gómez struck the bar after Higgs's fingertip deflection in the 87th, and Andy Villar headed over after a replacement in the 69th. Further subs included Rebés for López (76th) for the hosts, and Vaughan for Vaz, Daley for Wood (both 60th), Clay for Shephard, Manga for Hill (72nd) and Phillips for Venables (76th) for Penybont. Norwegian referee Mathias Støfringshaug officiated with assistants Alf Olav Rossland and Línia Cathrine Nymoen. Yellows went to Rasines (31st), Arjona (90th), Cann (27th, 33rd) and Daley (84th).

Atlètic Club d'Escaldes also advanced, overturning a 2-1 first-leg loss with a 2-1 away win over FK Mornar Bar at Gradski Stadion in Podgorica for a 4-2 aggregate success. Jovan Dašić levelled the tie in the 20th minute from Darko Zorić's assist, after earlier threats from Yao (twice), Zorić and Dašić. Atlètic held firm through Mornar's pressure into the second half, then won two stoppage-time penalties on Jota. David Valero converted both in the 90th and 90+3rd minutes against keeper Krijestarac.

Atlètic, coached by Xavi Andrés, now face Vaduz of Liechtenstein in the next round, starting away at Rheinpark Stadion. FC Santa Coloma host Rapid Wien at Estadi Nacional first, then travel to Allianz Stadion. This is the second time Santa Coloma have eliminated Penybont, following a first qualifying round clash three years ago.
