A 50-year-old Andorran paraglider has been found safe and asleep inside her vehicle following an overnight search in the Cogulló area of Organyà, after a witness reported seeing her apparently crash.
Emergency services, led by Mossos d'Esquadra and firefighters from the Generalitat, launched the operation Tuesday evening shortly after 9pm. The alert stemmed from a witness who observed a paraglider plummeting in the area on the north face of Cogulló, a favoured site for the sport. Initial checks identified the woman by name and located her Andorran-plated vehicle at the traditional Organyà takeoff zone. As a precaution, teams immobilised the car and began searching the rugged terrain.
Throughout the night, rescuers deployed drones, canine units, and the Special Actions Group. Around 7am Wednesday, they discovered the paraglider's sail and chair at the landing site, with no clear signs of an accident. By about 8am, teams returned to the vehicle and found her resting inside, unharmed and unaware of the search. She had not told anyone about her flight, left her mobile phone behind, and had no means to signal her well-being.
The operation concluded shortly after her discovery. No injuries were reported, highlighting the difficulties of monitoring flights in remote locations.
