Francisco Fiorito, a 16-year-old Argentine international master, claimed the title at the 42nd Andorra International Chess Open with a decisive victory in the final round at Hotel Panorama.
Entering the ninth round tied on points with Spanish grandmaster Miguel Santos, Fiorito pulled ahead by winning his last game while Santos drew. This left the young Argentine in sole first place with 7.5 points, marking him as the youngest champion in the tournament's history.
Santos finished second on 7 points, matching the score of Russian grandmaster Aleksandr Shimanov in third and Georgian player Lile Koridze in fourth. Koridze emerged as one of the event's standout performers.
The tournament also produced notable achievements: German player Bruno Engel secured a grandmaster norm without losing a single game, and Koridze earned an international master norm.
Ukrainian Andrey Sumets, the previous year's winner, placed behind the leaders. Among Andorran competitors, Marc González and Andrés Zamora topped the group with 5.5 points each, followed by Serni Ribera and Daniel Gómez on 5 points, and Raül García and Manuel Cabarcos on 4.5. Marta García led the female players, while Manuel Llopis took the best veterans' prize.
