MoraBanc Andorra Signs James Akinjo for Liga Endesa Debut

MoraBanc Andorra has officially signed US point guard James Akinjo for one season, strengthening the backcourt as the team gears up for its Liga Endesa debut.

The 25-year-old, 1.85 metres tall, steps in to replace Shannon Evans following his departure. He joins after wrapping up last season with Israel's Ironi Nes Ziona, where he played 11 games and averaged 8.1 points alongside a team-leading 7.2 assists.

Akinjo's path includes a standout US college career and NBA G League stints with affiliates of the New York Knicks, Sacramento Kings, Milwaukee Bucks and Denver Nuggets. Undrafted in 2022, he earned All-Star honours there with impressive assist numbers and stayed on the NBA fringe before moving to Europe in April.

Sporting director Jordi Ardèvol praised the signing, noting Akinjo's physical strength and competitive drive. "He stands out on defence thanks to his build, intensity and energy," Ardèvol said, adding that the guard also brings notable scoring ability alongside his playmaking.

This is the fourth addition to the roster under new head coach Žan Tabak as MoraBanc Andorra builds depth for Spain's top league. El Periòdic first reported the move last week ahead of Tuesday's announcement.
