Key Points

  • Andorran Football Federation extended deadline to Thursday for bank statements proving cleared debts to players, CASS, and suppliers.
  • UE Santa Coloma struggles with missing documents and disastrous prior management, risking administrative relegation.
  • Ranger’s reportedly paid debts including €25,000 to ex-coach and expects to submit paperwork on time.
  • League schedule delayed as committee awaits submissions; FC Santa Coloma signs players from both clubs.

UE Santa Coloma and Ranger’s have until Thursday night to submit bank statements proving cleared debts, or risk automatic relegation from the Lliga Multisegur Assegurances.

The Andorran Football Federation’s Competition Committee has extended the deadline for both clubs to six working days ending Thursday evening—not next Wednesday as some outlets reported. As of Wednesday, neither had provided the required bank extracts to verify payment of outstanding debts to players, the CASS social security body, suppliers, and others. These issues previously blocked their UEFA licenses last season.

Both clubs maintain they have resolved their financial problems and have the documents ready, but a source familiar with UE Santa Coloma’s situation described the club’s prior administrative management as “nefast”—a disastrous season leaving significant unpaid amounts that are hard to settle short-term. Promissory notes issued to players at season’s end do not suffice without full transaction records.

For UE Santa Coloma, the outlook appears dire. The same source indicated the club lacks the necessary bank statements and is unlikely to obtain them soon, pointing to administrative relegation with Sporting d’Escaldes poised to take their spot. The board, still dealing with Mexican creditors amid an ownership shift involving Efraín Martín and Boris Antón, plans to file appeals and seek legal remedies. Should relegation occur, the club would pivot to low-cost operations, focusing on youth and futsal teams for an adaptation year before considering a promotion push. Some voices have even raised the prospect of rebranding with a new name and image.

Ranger’s, which registered at the last minute, appears better positioned. Sources suggest it has paid its debts—including over €25,000 to its former coach—and will submit the paperwork on time to stay in the top flight.

Meanwhile, FC Santa Coloma has capitalized on the turmoil, signing at least three players from UE Santa Coloma and three from Ranger’s for the closed season.

The standoff continues to delay the league schedule as the committee awaits submissions before ruling. Both clubs hope to avoid further federation disputes while finalizing their cases.
