Andorra's nine athletes are set to compete at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, from 21 August to 3 September, with officials describing the event as highly demanding yet an ideal platform for growth.

The delegation was presented on Monday by Xavier Espot, president of the Andorran Olympic Committee, and Sports Minister Mònica Bonell. Espot called the Games nearly equivalent to the Olympics due to the presence of strong nations and world-record performances. He expressed confidence in the team's performance at their level, emphasising the chance to build experience and noting a rising number of Andorrans capable of competing ambitiously abroad.

Bonell praised the "ant-like work" of athletes and supporting institutions, highlighting stories of overcoming injuries. She urged the competitors to enjoy the event without pressure, assuring support regardless of medals.

The athletes represent athletics, taekwondo, rhythmic gymnastics and pétanque. In athletics, Duna Viñals, Nahuel Carabaña, Pol Moya, Ariadna Fenés and Eloi Viella will participate under coach Josep Carballude. Naiara Liñan competes in taekwondo with technician Diego Ortigoza. Berta Miquel handles rhythmic gymnastics for coach Clàudia López. Jon Fortes and Bruno Santmann join Patrick Senzier in pétanque.

Liñan and Fortes, who carried the flag at the previous edition in karate, will again serve as flag-bearers, symbolising the delegation's present and future. Mission head Jordi Orteu oversees the group.

Fortes expressed excitement about the honour and vowed to fight until the last ball in pétanque, aiming to place Andorra high despite tough opposition, with a personal goal of winning a match. Pol Moya, running the 1,500m, prioritised reaching the final. Miquel, fresh from a strong world championships showing, sought a solid finish to her season against powerful rivals, without altering her routines.

Espot highlighted the Games' value in boosting Andorra's international sports visibility and strengthening ties in the Mediterranean Olympic movement.
