Andorran swimmers Biel Cuen and Patrick Pelegrina fell short of their personal bests in their debuts at the European Swimming Championships in Paris.
Pelegrina finished 10th in his heat of the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:03.85. He covered the first 50m in 29.38 seconds, placing ninth at that point. "I went slower than I wanted and struggled at the end," Pelegrina said.
Cuen placed sixth in the first series of the 400m individual medley, clocking 4:32.82. He held third after the opening 200m but faded in the final stretch. "The truth is it wasn't what I expected, but we're facing today's event with enthusiasm," Cuen remarked.
The competition continues at the Paris venue through Sunday. Kevin Teixeira is due to race the 800m freestyle later today, starting at 11:04, with Cuen also entered in the event.
