FC Barcelona's futsal team has extended its preseason camp in Encamp through Friday, with double training sessions planned for Thursday ahead of a final morning session and departure.
Under coach Javi Rodríguez, the squad arrived Monday following medical checks in Barcelona and started afternoon workouts at the Complex Esportiu i Sociocultural. The focus has been on stamina exercises to prepare for a season aiming at all major trophies, including a Champions League push after securing the Spanish league title last year.
Wednesday's highlight saw around 50 children from Encamp's youth services join the players for training drills, three simultaneous 10-a-side matches, and a Q&A session. The kids arrived excited, many in Barca kits, and filled the court with energy and laughter despite the chaotic play. Players handed out club flags, which the children waved enthusiastically, along with postcards and photos as keepsakes. They also presented gifts to deputy consul Xavier Fernández.
Rodríguez stressed the value of such interactions in promoting futsal, saying the team welcomes spectators, especially children, to enjoy the sessions. Fernández called the event essential, noting it let local youth play with recent league champions, while reinforcing Encamp's status as a sports destination through its 16-year partnership with Barca sections.
Captain Dídac Plana praised Encamp's serene setting, landscape, mild temperatures, top facilities, nearby hotel, and mountain routes—conditions ideal for demanding work unavailable in Catalonia during August. Rodríguez echoed this, appreciating the fresh air and running paths.
New signings pivot Higor da Souza and defender Souheil Mouhodine bolster a squad ready to build on last season if it gels effectively. A public training opens to fans Thursday at 6:45pm, ahead of further Barca visits: handball August 9-12, roller hockey August 17-21, and basketball in early September.
