Pere Romeu, coach of FC Barcelona's women's team, wrapped up the squad's inaugural preseason camp in Andorra la Vella yesterday, voicing a strong desire to return in future years.
In comments to club media before departure, Romeu described the stay as highly successful. He commended the favourable temperatures and overall weather, despite heavy rain on some days that thickened the grass, especially during the first session. The facilities, gym, and hotel proved excellent, allowing effective training. "We have been extremely grateful to Andorra as a country and to FC Andorra for offering us this chance to train here," he said, adding that the team felt very comfortable and hopes to repeat the experience.
A public training session on Sunday attracted about 600 fans despite short notice. Romeu expressed deep appreciation for the turnout, which allowed supporters to observe daily routines with players and staff up close.
The camp on the final working day at the Comunal also featured interactions between the Barcelona group and FC Andorra personnel. Gerard Piqué, the club's main shareholder, greeted Romeu and player Aitana Bonmatí.
Sporting progress centred on tactical foundations. With players rested from true summer breaks and guided by personalised plans, the progressive schedule helped define the team's playing style. New signings shone: defenders Martina Fernández and René Van Asten brought aggression and strength, while Kerolin impressed with her speed, duels, and pressing.
The team now heads into a preseason friendly against Montpellier, prioritising match minutes, rhythm, and chemistry over the result.
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona's handball team has taken over preseason duties in Encamp, running until Thursday. After morning medicals and gym work at their sports city, they arrived for training and plan activities like a trip to Engolasters lake today, followed by a public session at 5pm at Complex Esportiu. They depart for a German tournament on Thursday.
