Encamp's opposition group demands answers after the parish lost a chance to host the world-class FC

Encamp opposition continues to criticise council over lost FC Barcelona women's pre-season camp

Agrupament Encampadà has reiterated its criticism of Encamp council for missing out on hosting the FC Barcelona women's first team's pre-season camp, which took place in Andorra la Vella instead due to calendar issues and limited facility availability.

In a recent social media post, the opposition group questioned how such a high-profile opportunity could slip away, noting that Barcelona initially contacted Encamp council but the plans did not materialise over scheduling and availability constraints.

The group views the episode as a significant loss for the parish's international visibility. They highlighted FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta's public endorsement of a visit during his February 2021 presidential campaign, when Andorra hosted one of five club polling stations in Andorra la Vella.

Agrupament Encampadà described the women's team as the world's best, fresh from victories in La Liga, Copa de la Reina, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Players such as Aitana Bonmatí serve as inspirations for young athletes and women's sport.

The opposition pointed to Encamp's established relationship with the club since 2008, when Barcelona's senior basketball team first used local facilities for pre-season. Professional basketball, handball, futsal, and roller hockey sections have since trained there regularly.

Given this track record, Agrupament Encampadà called the failure "incomprehensible" and demanded explanations from the ruling coalition on facility management and planning. They questioned whether improved coordination could have secured the stay, especially after recent investments in sports infrastructure, including support for FC Andorra initiatives.

The group called for better preparation to retain similar events in the parish.
