Andorran Gina del Rio Claims Silver in Rainy Rollerski World Cup Sprint Opener

Andorran rollerskier Gina del Rio wrapped up the Trollhättan World Cup in Sweden with a second-place finish in the women's 15km classic individual race, completing a strong weekend that included two podiums across three events.

Del Rio, competing for the Federació Andorrana d’Esquí, was among the last of 45 starters but quickly moved to the front, holding third place for much of the course. She advanced to second at the 11.7km mark and held on to the end, clocking 41:46.3—only 7.8 seconds behind winner Elin Henriksson. Johanna Hagström of Sweden claimed bronze.

This result capped a standout performance at the circuit's sole event on her team's calendar. Del Rio took silver on Friday in the skating sprint, posting the second-fastest qualifying time of 3:09.39, winning her quarterfinal in 3:32.50, finishing runner-up in the semifinal by 0.11 seconds, and placing second in the final at 3:27.56, 1.59 seconds off Hagström's winning 3:25.97, with Henriksson third. On Saturday, she finished fourth in the 48km classic mass start among 56 competitors, recording 2:07:44.5—4:18.4 behind Norway's Astrid Slind (2:03:26.1), who led a Norwegian podium sweep ahead of Emilie Fleten (1:16.3 back) and Magni Smedås (4:14.7 back). Del Rio beat Smedås by 3.7 seconds.

These efforts lifted her to the top of the World Cup rollerski standings with 370 points, ahead of Vera Myhlback (312), Hagström (290), Elin Henriksson (256), and Ragnhild Aarekol (253). She now turns to winter training preparations.
