  • Debut at World Road Running Championships; held group until 15km amid tough winds.

Ariadna Fenés set a new Andorran half-marathon national record by 43 seconds at the World Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, placing 81st in the women's event with a time of 1:15:03.

The Andorran runner completed the 21.097km course on Sunday in her debut at the championships, improving on her prior mark of 1:15:46. She stayed with a group until the 15km point before a pace increase by rivals isolated her, with gusting winds adding difficulty to the final stretch.

"I'm very happy because I've lowered my personal best and set a new Andorran record," Fenés said. She completed Andorra's participation by securing one of two national records at the event, following Pol Moya's mark in Saturday's road mile where he placed 31st in 4:01.91.

Kenyan Agnes Jebet Ngetich claimed victory in 1:05:15, ahead of her compatriots Veronica Loleo (1:06:05) and Rwanda's Florence Niyonkuru (1:06:08).

Josep Carballude, technical director of the Andorran Athletics Federation, highlighted Fenés' progress and described her opening 10km as a major step forward. Federation president Josep Maria Missé also commended both athletes for peaking at the right moment.

Other Andorran participants included Manel López, Jesús Baldo and Xavi Martínez from Amics de l'Atletisme in the event's popular races, which attracted some 48,000 runners overall.
