David Rogé launched Andorra's campaign at the World Mountain Running Championships in La Gomera, placing 34th in the 4.95km Vertical race with 952m of positive elevation gain.
The Federació Andorrana de Muntanyisme (FAM) athlete completed the course in 43:16, over six minutes behind winner Lluís Puigvert, who clocked 36:37. José Antonio Bellido and Italy's Luca del Pero took second and third places.
The opening three kilometres offered runnable terrain before a steep ramp to the finish. Rogé noted the race felt manageable until that point, adding that he felt strong overall for a world-championship debut but ran out of power in the final stretch.
High humidity added to the challenge on the demanding course.
Andorra's team effort continues with Samu Ponce and Sabrina Solana tackling the 62.3km Ultra on Saturday, which includes 3,775m of ascent. Rogé will close out the nation's participation the following day in the Sky race.
