Diego Díaz Confident in FC Andorra Turnaround After Loan Arrival

Diego Díaz, the 21-year-old forward on loan from Racing de Santander, voiced confidence in FC Andorra's ability to rebound from their early Segunda División struggles during his official presentation on Thursday.

The Cantabrian player, who made a brief debut last Saturday at Zorrilla—coming on for Thomas Carrique in the 79th minute of the 1-0 loss to Real Valladolid—has now completed a week of training with the team. This follows four consecutive defeats: 4-2 against Celta Fortuna, 0-1 to Eibar, and 1-0 to Valladolid, after an initial 5-1 victory over Ceuta.

Addressing the squad's form, Díaz emphasized a calm environment. "There's no doubt in the dressing room. We've only played four matchdays," he said, underscoring the long Lliga Hypermotion campaign ahead.

The transfer closed in a rush on the summer window's final day, with Racing notifying him just 24 hours earlier. "They told us 24 hours before that we were going out on loan, and in two hours we decided to come here," Díaz recounted. He cited the club's playing style as a key draw, aligning with his associative approach and game vision.

On his first venture outside Cantabria and into Segunda División, Díaz expressed enthusiasm. He praised the squad's quality, which exceeded his expectations, and noted his smooth adaptation over the initial week. "The level of my teammates has surprised me positively," he added.

Last season, he scored eight goals for Racing's reserves in Segunda RFEF. This year, he debuted at senior level in La Liga against Villarreal prior to the loan. Manager Carles Manso expects him to contribute through playmaking, long-range shots, and pressing.

Díaz becomes the third standout from Racing's youth ranks this year, following Jorge Salinas—linked with Barcelona and Atlético Madrid—and Sergio Martínez, now at Real Madrid. He attributed their rise to improved grassroots coaching and professional development from a young age.

While excited about the step up to a club like FC Andorra, Díaz tempered expectations. "This is my first step in Segunda División. We'll see what I can contribute as the matches progress."
