New Falgueró Tennis Courts Open in Escaldes-Engordany for Schools and Tournaments

New tennis courts at Falgueró in Escaldes-Engordany have opened to local school training this week and will host a national federation tournament over the next three weekends before public bookings begin in October.

The facility on the Falgueró car park rooftop replaces the previous courts at Prat del Roure, freeing up around 2,000 square metres there for broader community use. Mayor Rosa Gili and Sports and Administrative Services councillor Laura López attended the launch. The covered structure covers 1,670 square metres, with 1,142 square metres for the courts themselves and a 237.75-square-metre public green space offering elevated views.

Gili highlighted how the move restores central space at Prat del Roure for events enjoyed by all residents, such as festivals. López added that the courts will balance school activities, public access and competitions. Public reservations start in October, initially through in-person bookings at the sports department, with a new system to be announced later.

The courts form part of a larger project featuring a five-storey car park with 350 spaces across more than 10,500 square metres. Minor works continue, including signage and changing-room equipment, but the facility is now operational.

This weekend's tournament, part of the Andorran Tennis Federation's national circuit, launches the venue. Federation president Gerard Blasi expects 50 to 60 players, similar to last year, after the youth event shifted from its usual June slot due to the old courts' closure. Weather permitting, it will run over three consecutive weekends.

Escaldes-Engordany school pupils began training there this week. López stressed the goal of shared enjoyment for everyone. Gili noted the site's privileged location enhances its appeal as a public vantage point.
