Diego Díaz, the 21-year-old winger from Racing de Santander, has joined FC Andorra on a season-long loan and could feature in Saturday's match at struggling Real Valladolid, who have managed just one draw from their first three Liga outings.
The player from Santiago de Cartes arrived in the transfer window's final hour on 1 September. In a recent interview, he pointed to FC Andorra's playing style as a major factor in his decision, noting it mirrors Racing's approach. "I believe it's a style that will suit me well and allow me to help my teammates," he said, adding that it would enable a smooth adaptation.
Díaz brings versatility across winger, second striker and midfielder roles, with strong vision and shooting among his assets. Last season, he made 33 appearances for Rayo Cantabria in Segunda Federación, scoring eight goals and providing five assists. He entered as a substitute for Racing's senior team in La Liga two weeks ago against Villarreal, shortly after their promotion, and trained with their first team during preseason alongside Yeray Álvarez, who had a positive loan spell at Andorra last year.
Racing extended Díaz's contract to 2029 but approved the move to ensure regular minutes amid their squad reshaping. He began sessions with FC Andorra this week once sporting director Jaume Nogués obtained Liga de Fútbol Profesional clearance. His prior knowledge of the club came from watching them play Racing, supplemented by online videos about Andorra.
Separately, FC Andorra completed the registration of summer signing Enes Sali for La Liga on Wednesday after receiving Canadian approval. The club also loaned out Jan Lagunas to FC Santa Coloma and Bilal Achhiba to CE Manresa in Segunda RFEF, around the time Iván Owono joined. Preseason for the youth teams started in Catalonia with coaches José Salvador, Ricard Fernández Cucu, Albert Reyes, Èric Pelfort and Guille Burgos.
