Andorra la Vella Expands Gim Jove Program for 16-17-Year-Olds

The free youth sports initiative now targets older teens with dedicated sessions, professional monitoring, and focus on building lifelong healthy habits, following strong demand from its pilot launch.

Key Points

  • Registrations opened September 14 for 2026-2027 Gim Jove, adding 16-17 age group at Centre Esportiu dels Serradells.
  • Free program run by Youth Service; priority for residents until September 26.
  • Follows successful pilot with 56 participants; first quarter October 5 to December 28.
  • Aims to build healthy habits, tailored coaching, and smooth transition to independent training.

Andorra la Vella has launched registrations for the 2026-2027 Gim Jove programme, introducing a new group specifically for 16- and 17-year-olds at the Centre Esportiu dels Serradells.

The parish's Youth Service runs the free initiative, which expands its age range after a successful debut year that drew 56 participants with an average age of 14. Sign-ups opened on 14 September, driven by feedback praising the uncrowded spaces, appropriate gear, specialised coaching, physical gains and social bonds.

The programme stemmed from a 2023-2024 Youth Council idea to develop dedicated sports areas for teens. It started as a free pilot from October to December 2025, then shifted to quarterly blocks through June 2026 due to high interest.

This update addresses a gap for older participants, who previously left Gim Jove at 16 and used Serradells facilities independently. The dedicated group provides tailored routines, professional supervision and support for transitioning to solo training.

Cònsol menor Olalla Losada said the aim is to sustain healthy habits from teenage years into autonomous activity. She noted it shows commitment to youth needs through secure settings and expert advice.

Andorra la Vella residents get priority until 26 September, with remaining spots then available to others from 28 September. The first quarter runs from 5 October to 28 December.
