Andorran freeskier Joan Aracil claimed gold at the four-star IFSA freeride competition in Valle Arpa, Chile, scoring 40.77 points on a demanding run.
The event took place yesterday after organizers rescheduled it due to poor weather. Aracil outscored France's Tiernan Bridges in second place with 39.57 points and the United States' Turner Barbour in third at 38.43, according to the Andorran Ski Federation.
Describing his line as "quite alpine, from top to bottom without speed changes, with a big 360 at the top," Aracil said the sensations were excellent and left him very satisfied. The victory earned him 2,500 points toward qualifying for the Challenger series in Europe, he added.
Valle Arpa's backcountry terrain challenges elite competitors with steep, untracked lines under variable conditions. Aracil now prepares for the three-star Freeride Chile Championship at El Colorado, originally scheduled for 16 and 17 September.
