MoraBanc Andorra Captain Luz Optimistic Despite Preseason Struggles

MoraBanc Andorra captain Rafa Luz has expressed optimism ahead of the team's Liga Endesa opener on Saturday against Monbus Obradoiro at Pavelló Toni Martí, despite a winless preseason and lingering injury concerns.

The squad endured a difficult preparation, with no victories in four friendlies and physical niggles disrupting the final stretch. Luz noted that the past two weeks proved challenging due to ailments affecting himself, James Akinjo, and Cameron McGriff, alongside load management for others. "We've been able to adjust a lot during preseason and train everything we wanted to reach this point," he said. While early games hinted at coach Žan Tabak's desired identity, recent limitations hindered full-team cohesion. Luz expects most players to be ready but stopped short of confirming all three's availability.

New signing Kassius Robertson echoed the need for more time to gel, pointing out the team has yet to play a match with its complete roster. He described a positive locker-room atmosphere but stressed building on-court chemistry. Both players foresee rapid improvement. "What we're missing is playing and training together. With so many new faces, it takes time. I'm sure we'll look very different in a month or two," Luz said.

Defence will define the team's approach, Luz added, with a compact unit relying on collective contributions rather than a single star. "Our general identity will be defending very well," he explained.

Luz anticipates a full shift to competitive mode and praised fans' crucial role at the Bombonera last season in staving off relegation. He also welcomed recent short-term addition Rati Andronikashvili for boosting daily competition and easing training demands on key players.
