The Andorran athlete held his own for much of the contest against a strong field but could not match the pace of the medal contenders in the closing stages. Morocco's Salah Eddine Ben Yazide secured gold in 8:46.14, ahead of teammate Mohamed Tindouft in silver with 8:46.58. Algeria's Omar Seraiche earned bronze at 8:47.31.
Carabaña's result marks the end of Andorra's track and field efforts at the Games, which reach their final day on Thursday. Ariadna Fenés will be the Principality's last competitor, running in the women's half-marathon at 08:30.
