Andorran Skier Cande Moreno Returns to Slopes After Knee Injury
Andorran alpine skier Cande Moreno begins controlled snow readaptation in Chile's Corralco camp under medical watch, joined by teammates for October session. She reports regained knee confidence after recovery.
Key Points
- Cande Moreno resumes skiing at Corralco, Chile training camp in October, first time since Olympics ACL tear.
- Injured in February fall: torn left knee ligament, right thumb damage; underwent two surgeries.
- Group includes Jordina Caminal, Íria Medina, Clàudia García; supervised readaptation starts with gentle skiing.
- Maià Font finishes 14th and 17th in South American Cup super-G races at Corralco.
Andorran alpine skier Cande Moreno will return to the slopes for the first time since her serious knee injury at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, during the national women's team's training camp in Corralco, Chile, this October.
Moreno suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left leg, along with damage to the internal ligament in her right thumb, after a fall in February. She underwent surgery twice and has since followed a recovery process. Now, she plans to make initial contact with the snow under medical supervision as part of a controlled readaptation.
The trip includes Jordina Caminal, Íria Medina, and Clàudia García, accompanied by technicians Xoque Bellsolà and Ibon Mintegui, skimman Mathis Cottet, and physiotherapist Gemma Soler. Most of the group is due back in Andorra on October 22, though Medina will return earlier to rest ahead of the Sölden World Cup.
Moreno said she feels strong physically and has regained confidence in her knee, especially over the past month. "I'm not at 100%, but we've done tests on stability and strength—everything checks out for skiing," she noted. Mentally, she described herself as motivated yet calm, adding, "I don't want to skip steps because I trust that when the time comes, I'll be ready and confident."
Her physical trainer, Damià Costa, called the outing a vital milestone. The FAE medical team will track her knee's response through a phased plan, starting with gentle free skiing and skidding. After about 18 days on snow, they will outline the rest of her season.
Separately, Maià Font raced in two South American Cup (SAC) super-G events at Corralco, taking 14th in the first—1.84 seconds behind Argentina's Tiziano Gravier, earning 14 SAC points—and 17th in the second, 1.71 seconds off the pace while improving her FIS points.
