Andorran tennis player Vicky Jiménez advanced to the round of 16 in singles at the WTA 125 Caldas da Rainha Challenge in Portugal after defeating Canada's Katherine Sebov 6-4, 6-1 in the first round.
Jiménez, the No. 2 seed and ranked No. 173 in the WTA standings, fell behind early in the first set but responded after Sebov (No. 214) leveled the score from a 1-4 deficit. The Andorran then held her serve in the ninth game to secure the set. She controlled the second set completely, dropping just one game after an initial exchange.
In doubles, Jiménez had exited the previous day alongside Georgina García Pérez, a former Andorran resident from Barcelona. They lost 4-6, 4-6 to Czech Gabriela Knutson and Germany's Caroline Werner in the round of 16.
Jiménez will next play the winner of the match between Portugal's Francisca Jorge (No. 219) and China's Xinyu Gao (No. 230).
