Severe Weather Postpones Andorra's Basketball and Football Matches

Catalan government's severe weather alerts prompted ACB and LaLiga Hypermotion to suspend Andorran teams' games on Saturday. MoraBanc Andorra's basketball clash got a new date, but FC Andorra's football fixture awaits rescheduling.

Key Points

  • ACB suspended MoraBanc Andorra vs Asisa Joventut in Badalona, rescheduled for Oct 14 due to Catalan alert.
  • LaLiga Hypermotion halted FC Andorra vs Sabadell at Nova Creu Alta amid red weather warning; no new date set.
  • MoraBanc Andorra coming off loss to Obradoiro; FC Andorra had won 3-2 at Granada prior.
  • Vallès Occidental at max alert level 6 for heavy rain and storms.

Severe weather warnings across Catalonia have forced the postponement of both MoraBanc Andorra's basketball match and FC Andorra's football fixture.

The Spanish basketball league, ACB, suspended Saturday's Liga Endesa second-round game between Asisa Joventut and MoraBanc Andorra, originally scheduled for 6pm at Badalona's Palau Olímpic. The match will now occur on Wednesday, October 14, at 8pm, due to a meteorological alert from the Catalan government affecting the Badalona area. Other games in the round are proceeding as scheduled.

MoraBanc Andorra, under coach Žan Tabak, began the season with an 85-90 defeat to Monbus Obradoiro and will have to delay its next outing.

LaLiga Hypermotion has also confirmed the suspension of FC Andorra's eighth-round Segunda División clash with Sabadell, set for 6:30pm at Nova Creu Alta. The decision followed hours of uncertainty, with CE Sabadell announcing the postponement on social media due to a red meteorological alert. No new date has been set, though the club pledged to provide updates soon. The move came as FC Andorra's squad had already arrived in Sabadell, having traveled to Barcelona the previous day for a training session at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. Around 300 Andorran fans had been expected to attend, adding to the match's draw as a reunion with Ferran Costa, now Sabadell's coach under Carles Manso.

The fixture would have given FC Andorra a chance to build on its recent 3-2 away win at Granada, which ended a five-match losing run. Sabadell, meanwhile, had been unbeaten at home.

Vallès Occidental, where Sabadell is located, is under the maximum alert level of 6 out of 6, with Protecció Civil activating warnings and the INUNCAT plan for expected heavy rainfall and storms along coastal and pre-coastal zones. Both leagues cited these conditions in their decisions.
