French Groups Eye Full Buyout of Andorran Leader FC Santa Coloma

Talks between French investment groups and sole owner Víctor Vázquez aim for complete takeover, enabled by the club's new SAOE structure. Negotiations are ongoing but currently stalled, amid growing foreign interest in Andorran soccer.

Key Points

  • French investors in talks to acquire 100% of FC Santa Coloma from Víctor Vázquez, no deal finalized.
  • Vázquez would stay as coach with Dani Toribio; club recently became SAOE for easier transfers.
  • Talks stalled after initial €1M discussions; similar interest in Atlètic d'Escaldes paused.
  • FC Santa Coloma tops Multisegur League with Inter d'Escaldes on 9 points, 12-1 goal difference.

French investment groups have expressed interest in acquiring full ownership of FC Santa Coloma, currently held by Víctor Vázquez, though sources emphasize that no deal has been finalized.

Contact between the French investors and the club has occurred, with discussions focusing on purchasing the entire share package. Vázquez, the club's sole shareholder and administrator as well as its head coach, would remain involved, likely in his current coaching role alongside Dani Toribio. The interest follows the club's conversion to a Societat Anònima d’Objecte Esportiu (SAOE), which facilitates such ownership transfers through share sales—a step not yet taken by other interested Andorran clubs like Atlètic d'Escaldes.

While earlier reports described negotiations as advanced, consulted sources now indicate that talks are ongoing but stalled, with nothing concrete achieved. Initial discussions reportedly involved a figure close to but below one million euros. Similar interest in Atlètic d'Escaldes, led institutionally by Nacho Moratal, has been on the table longer but remains paused pending its own SAOE transformation.

Vázquez, a former player for Barcelona, Club Brugge, Toronto FC and LA Galaxy, assumed coaching duties last summer after the prior ownership departed. The move aligns with rising external attention on Andorran football, including Inter d'Escaldes' Conference League qualifying run, a play-off for an extra European berth, and the rollout of Football Video Support.

FC Santa Coloma shares the Multisegur Assegurances League lead with Inter d'Escaldes on nine points from three wins, netting 12 goals and conceding one: 3-0 at Carroi, 4-0 against Penya, and 5-1 over Sporting d'Escaldes.
