Andorra Ski Mountaineering Team Secures Six Podiums at Spanish Cup Opener

Andorra’s ski mountaineering team from the Andorran Mountaineering Federation (FAM) earned six podium finishes at the Spanish Cup opener in Espot over the weekend, with standout performances in the sprint and vertical races.

Oriol Olm spearheaded the results, claiming victory in the U23 sprint on Saturday and the U23 vertical on Sunday, while finishing eighth overall in the vertical. Marc Casanovas took silver in the U23 vertical, placing 11th in the absolute standings. In the U23 women’s category, Lea Anción secured second place in both the sprint and vertical, ending sixth overall in the vertical.

Younger competitors also shone: Joan Lluch grabbed silver in the U18 vertical in his national team debut, and Adrià Isal finished sixth in the U20 vertical.

Saturday’s sprint featured strong Andorran showings, as Olm and Anción topped the delegation, with Casanovas, Isal, and Lluch advancing to the semifinals in their categories.

National coach Xavier Capdevila and technician Guillem Campeny hailed the debut as a solid start. They noted that the athletes’ summer and preseason training had yielded results, though room for improvement exists. “The athletes have worked hard and built a strong foundation for the season; now it’s time to refine specific details to keep progressing,” the coaches stated. The Espot event signals the team’s ambitions, bolstered by Lluch’s arrival in the U18 ranks.
