Andorra's First Olympic Sailor: Pharmacist Óscar Ramon's Adventurous Life

Óscar Ramon, Andorra's first Olympic sailor, balances his life as a pharmacist in Pas de la Casa with a passion for adventure and community involvement.

A pharmacist by family tradition—both his parents worked in the profession—Ramon runs a pharmacy in the high-altitude parish, where he takes pride in looking after local residents' health. He also serves as president of the Pas de la Casa Neighbours' Association, championing the close-knit community he calls home.

Ramon's sporting highlight came through sailing alongside his brother David. The pair represented Andorra at two Summer Olympics: Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996. "Sailing with my brother allowed me to live two Olympic Games representing Andorra," he recalls.

Living in Pas de la Casa suits his active lifestyle perfectly. The parish's world-class ski slopes are a short distance away, and Ramon has skied since the age of three. "It helps me disconnect from work and reconnect with nature," he says. He praises the area's residents as its greatest asset.

Beyond sports and work, Ramon unwinds with reading, which transports him to distant places, and music, which he listens to daily while seeking out new artists. A devoted cat lover, he has owned as many as six at once, drawn to their independence and character. Cooking ranks high too, especially when preparing meals for his partner, friends, and family.

Travel fuels his curiosity—he relishes trips with friends and dreams of visiting South America and Africa. Vacations, he adds, make reuniting with friends even more enjoyable.
