Andorran driver Edgar Montellà received recognition yesterday in Madrid at the Real Federación Española de Automovilismo (RFEDEA) Gala de Campeones. He collected the trophy confirming his championship title in Class 11 of the Spanish national AutoHebdo Sport mountain racing series, along with the runner-up position in Class 3.
The awards cap a successful return season for Montellà in the Spanish mountain championship, where consistent performances kept him at the top of the standings and met preseason goals. "Today is the reward for all the work from last year, a year of returning to the Spanish circuit where our regularity allowed us to stay ahead and collect these two prizes today. We ended the season having achieved our objective," Montellà said at the event.
He thanked his sponsors, family, and particularly his partner for their support.
The 2023 championship featured monthly rounds, with a break in August. It began from April 25-27 in Estepona, Andalusia, followed by the Subida al Fito in Asturias on May 16-18. The June 31 to July 1 event was the Pujada a Arinsal, organised by the Andorra Automòbil Club (ACA)—a milestone for Montellà, as the club launched his career through its Joves Pilots programme.
Subsequent rounds included the Subida Chantada in Galicia on July 24-26. Montellà skipped the September 5-6 Subida a Los Loros in the Canary Islands due to personal commitments. The finale took place September 26-28 in Onil, Alicante.
