Encamp parish saw a 2.63% rise in overnight stays linked to sports training camps in 2025, totaling 9,134 nights against 8,900 in 2024.

The increase strengthens Encamp's role as a leading hub for sports tourism, drawing professional teams and athletes for intensive training. Local officials have long prioritized this sector, and the latest data highlight its success despite competition from sites such as Sant Cugat's CAR and Font-Romeu.

High-profile groups using Encamp's facilities last year included swimmers from the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation preparing for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. They trained multiple times in Pas de la Casa, with stays lasting three weeks to a month and a half, according to Nino Marot, the councillor for finance, sports and economic reactivation.

FC Barcelona's hockey, basketball, handball and futsal sections held their summer pre-season there under a deal with the parish. Paris Basketball, an EuroLeague side, also based itself in Pas de la Casa for the summer, as did Spanish speed skater Daniel Milagros before his February debut at the Milan Olympics.

Marot said the strategy positions Encamp as a prime choice for both elite athletes and development programs. He credited its southern European location, Pas de la Casa's altitude, sunny weather, calm environment, quality services and diverse sports venues.

To build on this momentum, the parish will renovate Pas de la Casa Sports Complex, with work likely starting in June. Plans call for expanding the gym from 196 to 582 square metres, along with upgrades to access, pools and changing rooms. Parts of the facility should be ready by mid-2027, ahead of the 2028 Olympics, to accommodate more international visitors.
