FC Andorra coach Carles Manso has praised new signing Marc Cardona as a key addition to the attack, stating the 30-year-old brings the team "much closer to goal" despite not being available for Sunday's home match against Osca.
The Lleida-born striker joined on a free transfer until the end of the season after terminating his UD Las Palmas contract on Wednesday. He becomes the third winter arrival, following loans of Yeray Cabanzón from Racing Santander and Edgar González from Almería. Manso highlighted Cardona's experience in Primera and Segunda divisions, describing him as a mobile forward who can drop to the flanks and provide combination play. "He will help us in all situations inside the box," the coach said ahead of the 2pm fixture at Nou Estadi de la FAF.
To register Cardona, the club is finalising a squad departure to free up a spot. "We're working on some exit to make things easier," Manso confirmed, noting the tough decision amid a well-covered roster. The move aims to balance the squad for the season's final stretch.
Cardona's path began in Lleida's Bordeta youth system before a move to Cádiz province clubs including Atlético Sanluqueño, Veteranos Jerez, Jerez CD and San Benito. He scored 20 goals in his 2015-16 third-division debut season with Sanluqueño, securing a transfer to Barcelona B. There, he netted 17 goals in Segunda B—capped by a hat-trick debut—and seven in Segunda amid injuries, plus a first-team cameo under Luis Enrique against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Subsequent spells included loans at Eibar (three goals in 17 games), Osasuna (signed for €2.5m), Mallorca and Go Ahead Eagles, before Las Palmas, where he scored 11 goals in 86 appearances, including seven during their promotion.
The signing follows a morale-boosting 2-1 win at Mirandés' Anduva, which created a five-point cushion from relegation in LaLiga Hypermotion. Defender Gael Alonso called it a "bang on the table" and maturity milestone, with the team enduring late pressure despite not being at their best. "We knew how to suffer, especially in the final minutes, and we've grown," the Galician centre-back said. Second to Sergio Molina in minutes and with two goals, Alonso stressed no room for complacency in the tight league: "Anyone can beat anyone— we go match by match."
Manso described the Mirandés victory as bittersweet after trailing in the second half, urging consistency against Osca, who sit antepenultimate with three straight losses and just two away wins from 11. He recalled a first-leg draw when Andorra led 2-0 but faltered, warning: "When we stop being ourselves, we're vulnerable." Updates include Edgar González's potential debut pending league approval, Martí Vilà as a doubt, Sergio Molina suspended—opening a chance for Bomba—and preparations for possible snow.
