Andorran athlete Nahuel Carabaña claimed his first Catalan 5km road running championship at the 47th Moritz Sant Antoni race in Barcelona, finishing in 14:01 amid cold winds and challenging conditions.
The event, which drew a record 7,500 participants across distances and served as the Catalan Road Running Championships, saw Carabaña, competing for the Andorran Athletics Federation (FAA) and ADA Calvià-Vistasol club, take control from the start. Albert Ruiz finished second in 14:26, with Jordi Pujol Domínguez third at 14:27. In the women's race, Argentina Òria de Rueda won, followed by Meritxell Raimundo and Laura Rodríguez.
Carabaña, reflecting on his performance, said he felt strong throughout despite the weather. "I felt very good today and I'm really happy. Even with the cold and wind, I was strong the whole way," he noted, adding that the final straight proved the toughest section. He praised the high calibre of rivals like Ruiz and Pujol, calling the victory "this gold at the Catalan 5K" a key milestone.
The result follows his strong showing at the Valencia 10K, and Carabaña indicated plans to test his limits further at the distance. "We wanted to see how I'd respond at 5K after that, and there are more races where I plan to push harder," he said.
