The Olympus Race Andorra concluded on Sunday in Canillo with a record 1,000 participants across its seventh edition, hosting Spain's National Obstacle Course Championship outside Spain for the first time.
The four-day event, running from Thursday to 3 May at the Tarter site, offered seven formats for all levels, including the elite 15K Zeus, 3K Sprint, family races, OCR 100, and a mixed category. In the elite 15K men's race, Rubén García Gómez finished first in 1:33:01, followed by Albert Soley Castells and Adri Martín. Beatriz Rubio Lastra took the women's title in 2:04:30, with Jessica Velasco Ruiz and Elvira Pascua Santamaría in second and third. Additional winners included José Vila in OCR 100 men, ahead of Jordi Vall and Julián Medina; Andrea Azkune in OCR 100 women, followed by Miriam Araujo; and a mixed team of Rubén García, Dani García, and Andrea Azkune.
It began Thursday with an obstacle course for about 100 third-cycle pupils from Canillo's French and Andorran schools, held in the Tarter car park. Teachers participated alongside students on a tailored route to encourage fitness, teamwork, and resilience, with families attending and parish councillors Laura Riba and Àlex Kinchella present to support youth health initiatives.
The gathering attracted hundreds of athletes, companions, and visitors, fostering a lively atmosphere that benefited local businesses and restaurants. Canillo Sports Councillor Laura Riba described the edition as a "before and after" for the event and parish, highlighting the participant milestone and Spanish championship's role in boosting its global profile. Consul Major Jordi Alcobé said it went beyond sport, blending culture and solidarity to promote sustainable active tourism. Organiser Guillem López-Cross, alongside founders Jürgen Espejo and Edu Salerno, reported strong feedback despite Saturday's weather challenges, including live streaming and a giant screen. They aim to host a European championship in 2029 or 2030, after next year's non-national edition.
Organisers thanked Ensisa for the venue and noted Canillo's natural terrain as perfect for such inclusive outdoor events, solidifying the parish's status in sports tourism.
