Key Points

  • Finished sixth in second Steinach super-G, earning 40 World Cup points
  • Also placed 7th in the supercombined and 12th in the first super-G — 62 points total for the weekend
  • Nearly fell in the first super-G after clipping his weaker right leg and making a wall-section error
  • Puig will race two downhills in Santa Caterina next; Alexis Guimond won the final super-G

Roger Puig capped the Steinach am Brenner meeting with a career-best sixth place in the second super-G, earning 40 World Cup points and moving up the overall standings. The race was won by Alexis Guimond.

Earlier in the weekend Puig had equalled his best World Cup placing at the time by finishing seventh in the supercombined, improving from eighth after the speed run with a strong slalom leg. He began the World Cup weekend with a 12th-place finish in the first super-G — worth 22 points — after a troubled start in which he clipped his right, weaker, leg and nearly fell, then lost further time following an error on a key wall section.

Taken together, Puig added 62 World Cup points across the Steinach events, a boost to his season tally and world ranking. After the final super-G he said he was pleased with how the weekend closed and felt “very happy and motivated for the upcoming races.”

The team now moves on to Santa Caterina, where Puig is scheduled to contest two downhills as the circuit continues.
