Laporta Secures Re-election with Landslide Win in Andorra

FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta won a decisive victory among Andorran members in Sunday's club presidential election, taking 371 votes or 66.01% of the 562 valid ballots at the Andorra la Vella Congress Centre. Víctor Font earned 179 votes (31.85%), with 12 blank ballots (2.13%) and no invalid ones. The result secured Laporta's re-election for a second term until 2031 and marked the highest turnout ever recorded in the Principat for such a vote, as well as the sixth highest across all club polling stations.

The day unfolded without incident, with polling opening on time at 9am and steady voter turnout from the start. Organisers reported 136 votes by 11am, figures rising to around 156 shortly after, nearing 200 by late morning, and reaching 251 by noon. A barrier was erected to manage queues as crowds built, including families, elderly members, young voters, and visitors from nearby Alt Urgell and Cerdanya—some arriving in ski gear after weekend trips to the slopes.

A private area ensured ballot secrecy, overseen by representatives from both Laporta's and Font's campaigns. Among roughly 700 eligible voters from about 800 local affiliates, turnout hit around 80%. Notable participants included Tourism Minister Jordi Torres and former Finance Minister Jordi Cinca, alongside business figures and out-of-towners. A Cerdanya couple called the local station a welcome convenience before heading home, while residents praised the decentralised setup across five stations—Barcelona, Girona, Tarragona, Lleida, and Andorra—enabled by universal suffrage.

Laporta supporters cited his crisis management, financial turnaround, La Masia focus, on-field success, and influence on Camp Nou funding. One veteran member said Laporta "knows the club and pulled it from ruin." A father voting with his children emphasised continuity amid economic pressures, while others noted his institutional experience and international clout. Font backers sought a management overhaul, greater professionalism, and long-term planning.

Polls closed at 9pm, with local results certified that evening. Club-wide turnout was 42.34%—the second lowest since 1997 universal suffrage—yet Andorra reaffirmed its place among the world's highest per-capita densities of Barça members. The outcome mirrored Laporta's 2021 Andorran win, where he claimed about 60% of 442 votes. Laporta later celebrated exuberantly into the early hours, joining supporters in song and chants at a Barcelona nightclub.
