Andbank Signs One-Year Sponsorship with VPC Rugby Women's Teams

VPC rugby club's women's section has gained a major boost with a one-year sponsorship deal from Andbank, announced Thursday at the bank's headquarters in Andorra. The agreement positions Andbank as the lead backer for the senior team, under-18s, under-16s, and under-14s, while offering support to other club squads amid persistent shortages of players.

Club president Èric Risco described the pact as an initial step to build stability and expand participation. "It's a starting point to create a solid foundation, boost player numbers, and secure long-term growth," he said, outlining plans to strengthen outreach in schools and communities nationwide.

Senior player Andreia Teixeira, who also plays for Andorra's national side, welcomed the involvement of a key institution. She highlighted the sport's evolution from modest origins with a few pioneers to its current ambitions. "It's an honour for major players to back us—we're eager to carry the jersey far, now standing for Andorra and its organisations," she noted.

Andbank deputy director Josep Maria Cabanes called the collaboration a landmark for the nation's oldest bank and one of its longstanding sports clubs. "It's a privilege for the senior women's team to wear our colours on international fields," he said.

The timing proves crucial as the senior side, coached by Jordi Fidalgo, faces league leaders Cornecruc in the División de Honor Catalana semifinals. The match is set for this afternoon at 4pm at Estadi Municipal Pilar Pons in Cornellà—initially reported for Saturday but confirmed today as today in Castelldefels area. Cornecruc, a merger of Rugby Club Cornellà and CRUC Castelldefels, finished top with 36 points to VPC's 21 in fourth place. The teams traded regular-season wins: VPC triumphed 43-38 on October 11 before losing 15-7 in the return fixture. VPC has reached the semifinals for three consecutive years. Despite the away challenge, Teixeira expressed optimism: "We're set for a positive outcome—our motivation is unmatched, and our experience keeps growing."

The team recently impressed with a 29-5 victory in its official debut at the European 15s Championship in Croatia. Risco emphasised women's rugby's upward path and the need for more recruits. The other semifinal features CN Poble Nou versus Unizar de Zaragoza at Barcelona's Mar Bella at the same time.
